Nail Polish Obsession Tag

I really enjoy watching the "My Nail Polish Obsession" tag videos on YouTube, and I thought it would be a great idea to answer the ten questions from the tag on a blog post! The "My Nail Polish Obsession" tag is basically a video (or blog post) answering ten questions about your nail polish obsession. Let's get to the questions!

Question #1: What's your favourite nail polish company?

My favourite nail polish company is hands down OPI. I like their Pro-Wide brush, square wand, bottle shape, range of colours, and their formula. Their polish is never streaky or patchy, and I generally get a good wear time out of them. Their price is average for a salon nail polish brand, and they regularly release new collections with a large variety of colours and finishes. OPI is also a 3 free brand.

Question #2: Glitter or no glitter?

I don't have a definitive answer to this one. I like glitter as an accent nail, or as a full-out glitter mani during certain holidays, but having 10 glittery nails is just not my thing. If I am going to wear glitter, I prefer only having one accent glitter nail. I do however like fine holographic glitter topcoats.

Question #3: OPI, China Glaze, or Essie?

As I said before, I prefer OPI. If I had to give them a first, second and third, it would be OPI, Essie, then China Glaze. I like Essie's range of sheer pinks, pastels, and soft colours. Their brush is okay, and their formula is Big 3 Free (free of toluene, formaldehyde, and DBP). That being said, I do enjoy China Glaze's colour selection, but I am not a huge fan of their brush (too stiff, feels a little cheap), and their formula contains formaldehyde.

Question #4: When do you change your nail polish?

I'm not quite sure if this question is asking how often I change my nail polish, or what time of day I change my nail polish, but I'll answer both. I change my nail polish when I see tip wear, chips, and enough new nail growth to bother me. This means I will change bright, bold colours such as reds, bright pinks, and purples more often than I will change sheer pinks or nudes. This varies from every 2-3  days to once a week.

I generally change my nail polish in the late afternoon or early evening after dinner. I shower at night, so I want my polish to be fully dry by that time.

Question #5: What's your favourite colour on your nails?

I know this is going to surprise many of you, but my favourite colour on my nails is a sheer pink. More specifically, OPI You Callin' Me A Lyre?. I've tried so many different drugstore and salon brand sheers and this is the only one that is not streaky no matter how many coats I apply. I've applied up to three coats of this polish on my nails and it was not streaky.

Question #6: Darks or Brights?

This answer really depends on the season and my mood. I have never worn black nail polish, nor have a worn white nail polish, but I tend to reach for brighter colours in the spring and summer, and darker colours in the fall and winter.

Question #7: What are you wearing on your nails right this moment?

I just changed my nail polish a few hours ago. I was wearing Essie Fifth Avenue, a gorgeous bright orangey-red, and I am currently wearing 3 coats of OPI You Callin' Me A Lyre?.

Question #8: Matte nails, in or out?

I would say out. I like a thick, shiny, almost gel like manicure, and matte nails look almost sad to me. I'm also not a huge fan of textured matte nail polishes such as OPI Liquid Sand, Zoya Pixie Dust, and China Glaze Texture.

Question #9: French Manicure?

I like the French Manicure, but I have a few exceptions. I cringe when I see long, square nails with French Manicures, or short nails with overly exaggerated white tips. I think they look best on nails just past the fingertips in length with natural, curved, off-white tips. The white polish used on French Manicures is often too white and stark. Choosing a more grey or sheer white look much more elegant and sophisticated.

Question #10: Favourite winter colour?

My favourite winter colour is deep, creamy red. More specifically, OPI Manicurist of Seville, or OPI I'm Suzi and I'm A Chocoholic.

That's it! I hope you enjoyed hearing my thoughts and opinions. Thanks again for reading!
